Emily Myers creates distinctive, hand-thrown vessels which are carved, faceted and altered, reflecting the ploughed furrows and rolling hills of the rural landscape surrounding her home and studio in Hampshire. She has been described by Emmanuel Cooper OBE as 'quietly celebrating the possibilities of clay'.

Having been introduced to the potter's wheel at King Alfred School, North London, at the age of twelve, Emily went on to study ceramics at Camberwell and then Bristol School of Art, where she was tutored by Walter Keeler. Graduating in 1987 and with the assistance of a Crafts Council grant, Emily set up her first studio in London, where she worked for 10 years.

Since moving to Hampshire her work has become increasingly organic. She works mainly with red stoneware clay and a variety of barium glazes. The dry glazes evoke surfaces and textures of plant stems, flints and rusting farm machinery. Her latest work (2022) explores the use of a much more vivid Persian blue.

Emily Myers is recognised as one of the UK's top makers. She is a Crafts Council selected maker and a Fellow of the Craft Potter's Association. Solo exhibitions include Beaux Arts, Bath, and the Contemporary Ceramics Centre in London. She regularly participates in major UK ceramics exhibitions, including Ceramic Art London, and has also exhibited internationally.

Emily was the subject of a major editorial in Ceramic Review (Jan/Feb 2021), and an associated short film which you can watch and read here. https://www.ceramicreview.com/videos/masterclass-with-emily-myers/
