Bamana Buffalo Mask (Mali)
An exceptional Bamana mask, with patina showing clear evidence of use and age. In many African societies, the buffalo represents strength, courage, endurance and determination - prized traits in African culture. The Bamana (also known as Bambara) people are primarily animists, involved with agriculture and cattle rearing.
