African Canine Mask (Luba, Congo)
In African art, the dog symbolises hunting prowess, and is often thought to bring good luck or prosperity. This sculpture, depicting a dog with a peaceful expression, is hand-carved from a single piece of wood, patinated with white kaolin and pigments.
Unique. Signs of wood damage/cracking to the top of the head, but stable. Overall height with stand: 53 cm
