Large Mambila Water Jug
Terracotta, 20th Century. A unique water jug depicting a female in joyous song. Very good condition (no chips). Presented on a circular raffia stand.
The Mambila are a small tribe in the mountainous region along the northern Cameroon/Nigeria border. Their art includes wild-looking standing figures used in the ancestor cult, as well as mask forms. They have achieved great recognition for their art which is much sought after by collectors.
