The Baule are one of the rare tribes where sculpture is created for aesthetic as well as
ritual purposes. A piece such as this would
be used to ensure the beneficial presence of a female ancestor, and to represent good luck, health and prosperity.

An exquisite piece in exceptional condition. Ivory Coast. Mid 20th Century.
