LOT 110: Duma Mask
African Duma Masks are widely acknowledged to have influenced many famous 20th Century European artists, including Picasso (the cubist movement), Modigliani, and Francis Bacon. Much sought after by ethnographic art collectors, for the last half century Duma masks have been used in celebration dances associated with major social rituals.
The Duma (also Aduma) tribe are the great boatmen of the Ogooue River, Gabon region.
